SOLAR STREAM DOSERS

For Phosphorus Removal and Algae Control

The Sweetwater Technology SOLAR STREAM DOSER is the ideal solution for phosphorus removal from streams, and agricultural and storm water runoff.

Liquid alum and a buffering agent such as sodium-carbonate are metered into the stream at a variable rate depending upon the stage height of the water. The aluminum in the alum combines with the phosphorus in the water forming a harmless, insoluble precipitate. Removing free phosphorus is an effective means of reducing algal growth.

The doser mechanism uses small motorized valves which are battery operated. Solar panels mounted on the top of the doser keep the batteries charged so no electrical hookup is necessary.

The Solar Stream Doser itself is placed in or next to the stream with two of the four legs standing in the water. A float gauge in one of the legs reacts to the stage height of the stream and mechanically switches on electrical valves to release more chemicals as the water rises. Flow rates vary from 0 to as much as 5 gallons per minute for each liquid. Each system is individually set up according to expected stage heights and phosphorus loadings of the particular stream. These chemical flow rates are adjustable after installation.

The control module can also be designed to fit inside a storm sewer manhole with the storage tanks and solar panel remotely located.

The chemicals are stored in tanks that can be located near an access road, some distance from the stream. Tanks are sized according to the rate of use and the economical order quantities of the chemicals. They can hold as much as 50 tons to take advantage of delivery by tank truck.

Dosers are delivered to the site completely assembled and ready for installation. Sweetwater can also supply the storage tanks. Foundations, weirs, piping, battery, and installation are the responsibility of the purchaser. Sweetwater will supply complete specifications for these items.
