| The Sweetwater Microfloc Alum Injection System meters microscopic particles of alum (aluminum sulfate) into the water column, removing the nutrient phosphorous. Alum is a water treatment chemical used as a water clarifier in processing many public drinking water supplies. On contact with water, alum forms aluminum hydroxide ( the major ingredient in Maalox). Aluminum hydroxide reacts with phosphorous making it unavailable as food to the algae. A small Shore Station meters the alum and air to the microfloc generator(s) in the lake. The generator creates microscopic particles of aluminum hydroxide which stay in suspension in the water column until they react with phosphorous. This results in the thorough treatment of the entire water column.
The system can treat up to 8 acres: |
